SCOPE. Department of Justice Alien Property Division documents (largely 1934-1959) contain administrative files including interoffice memoranda, budget, and personnel files; Claims Division and litigation files including correspondence, memoranda and other material concerning individual cases; numbered opinions of the Division's General Counsel; claims decisions and related correspondence; and numerous draft proposals and correspondence regarding amending the Trading with the Enemy Act of 1917. Principal among Jones' projects concerning international judicial assistance was the Commission on International Rules of Judicial Procedure of which he was director in the early 1960's. Personal papers contain correspondence files, ca. 1917-1960, primarily concerning his professional life and correspondents include Homer Cummings, Sherman Minton, Herbert Wechsler and John H. Wigmore, as well as numerous Department of Justice colleagues; drafts of speeches and articles; and.
